Auburn Eagles Grounded by Dominant MUCC Masters
Date of Event Macquarie University Cricket Club: Tue Nov 24, 2020 1:56PM

Sunday saw the MUCC veterans' team chalk up one of the larger wins seen in the Sydney Masters competition. Against an Auburn Eagles side that is new to the league and admittedly still finding its feet, the 207 run victory was set up by a dominant batting performance. Led by Phil, Sutts and Nads with their not out 40s, an already swift run rate was markedly increased with the return of the Prof (59*) and Nadeem (115*). By the end of his innings, Nads was imperiously pinpointing where he was hitting his boundaries allowing MUCC to score 95 off the last 6 overs to reach the 291 total.
Auburn managed only 84 in reply as the bowling unit’s first hit out for the season worked through the Eagle’s batting line up. The multiple wicket takers were a solid 2/25 for Marty, an at times fiery 4/12 for Matty G, and a miserly 3/1 off 3.2 overs from Bob. Bob taking the final wicket with Matty champing at the bit at the other end for his 5fa... c’est la vie.
Phil G continued to enjoy his day. As stand-in skipper, he won his first toss (very un-MUCC), made his 40n.o., and took two catches and a stumping. One of the catches a sharp effort standing up to Bob, and a, let say, less than efficient 3 swing stumping.
Low lights of the day included James G’s attempt to reintroduce the terry towelling bucket hat into cricket fashion. There was also the sharp, low to the left catch taken by Rosie. Unfortunately this was taken whilst subbing for Auburn with Marty being the ill-fated batsman. Rosie is now looking for a new club in Coventry.
A special thanks to Col Monro, the Auburn Eagles 12th man who stepped in as our 11th. 12 runs and a wicket with some more than competent leg spin helped us out on the day.
