On This Day 50 Years Ago!

 

On March 18, 1972, fifty years to the day, Macquarie University Cricket Club won their first premiership by beating Auburn in the Final of the Municipal and Shires C Grade Competition.

Winning the toss and batting, Macquarie scored 173, with Captain Frank Alley top scoring with 64.

In Auburn’s first innings they managed 70, with the wickets being shared between Peter Miller 3 for 21, Frank Alley 3 for 24 and John Giuffre 4 for 21.

Following on, Auburn scored 105, the wickets again being shared between Peter Miller 3 for 22, Frank Alley 4 for 55 and John Giuffre 3 for 23.

This left Macquarie 3 runs to win which M.? Mills made short work of by hitting the second ball for four.

Congratulations to Frank Alley, Paul Smith, Peter Miller, John Giuffre, M.? Mills, Bob Porter, Andrew Faulks, Mick Redden, John Slack, Peter Barclay and Bernie Clifton.
